How They Play: 0-12 Months

While starting on with this world, the first three months are all about observing things and surroundings. Try to buy toys that keep your little one engaged and promotes his interaction in a variety of ways. For example, during the first year, your baby’s vision is still developing. Toys that have bold patterns and bright colors will attract his attention at best and help in the development of his vision. Similarly, pick toys that make sounds when pressed or have different textures and materials in order to develop other senses like touch and hearing. Some suggestions are:

  • Teethers
  • Rattles
  • Plush smileys
  • Small fabric balls
  • Soft toys like stuffed animals and dolls

At this stage, when the senses of touch, vision, smell, taste, and hearing have developed, your baby can now learn about the concept of cause and effect. When a toy responds to his actions, the joy on his face is a wonderful sight to see. The best toys are the ones, which have some buttons to play music or a toy that pops out characters. Some other suggestions are

  • Learning walker
  • Push-pull toys
  • Shape sorters
  • Plush balls
  • Simple musical instruments like tambourines and drums

After the age of 2, your kid is acquiring his fine and gross motor skills. So the play at the age of 2-3 years becomes more purposeful. He can now make sense of the puzzles and board games. Soon you will also realize that your little one has started mimicking people. This mimicking is setting the stage for pretend play. The kids, in general, are extremely active at this stage, and it is the best time to introduce ride-on toys. The best toys for 2-3 years old kid are:

  • Pretend play toys like doctor set
